The Strange Bird: A Borne Story Overview
Steeped in the science fiction genre, Jeff VanderMeer’s The Strange Bird details the journey of a biologically engineered bird, who is a mix of human, animal, and technological parts, throughout a post apocalyptic world. The third person limited point of view creates an analytical observation of this world filled with delusional humans attempting to save what has been lost. For much of the novel, the Strange Bird is imprisoned until her eventual escape south. This novel addresses, among others, themes of freedom, imprisonment, love, hunger, and delusion.
