"The Second Coming" is a 22-line poem by Modernist poet William Butler Yeats. It was written in 1919, and was published in November of 1920 in The Dial. It was later included in his 1921 collection Michael Robartes and the Dancer. The poem uses apocalyptic and Christian imagery to describe the anxiety and dread of European life in the wake of the First World War.
