In the suspense novel The Searcher by Tana French, Calvin “Cal” Hooper moved to Western Ireland to leave behind the stress of his career as a police officer in Chicago. He is approached by a local teenager, Teresa “Trey” Reddy, who says her brother, Brendan has gone missing and she suspects foul play. Cal cannot help but get involved. He learns there is more to the remote land to which he has moved than meets the eye. Themes in the novel include vigilante justice, the importance of having a code of morality, and community prejudice.
