“The Scholars” is a 12-line poem by prominent Irish poet William Butler Yeats. It was written in late 1914 and originally published in 1919 in Yeats’ collection Wild Swans at Coole. The poem is a critique on the nature of academia and literary scholarship, which are juxtaposed against the passion of artistic creation.
