The Safekeep Overview

In Yael van der Wouden's novel The Safekeep, Isabel den Brave has lived in her family home since her mother's death. She is protective of the house and her solitude, and hopes that her older brother Louis will someday pass the property to her instead of claiming it as his own. However, when Louis leaves his new girlfriend Eva at the house with Isabel while he goes away on business, Isabel fears that she is losing control of her future. Conflicts and tensions between Isabel and Eva arise throughout Eva's stay threaten and threaten to reveal each woman's secret traumas and desires. Written from the third person limited point of view, the novel explores themes including intimacy, ownership, and memory.
