The Promise of a Pencil Overview

Adam Braun was raised to be successful, hardworking but to always think of others. He came to a crossroads in his life when he was presented with a life-changing dilemma. After graduating from Brown University he landed in a plush job on Wall Street. He had always wanted to be a hedge fund manager or investment banker and make a big killing on the Street. However, when he signed up for a semester abroad and learned that there was a big wide world out there filled with poor kids who had no opportunity to be educated, things changed for him. He could not get the image of the little boy who eagerly took a pencil from Adam as though it were a prized joy. Ultimately Adam Braun founded a nonprofit named Pencils of Promise with a mission to build schools in developing countries.
