The Plot is a novel by Jean Hanff Korelitz. The story follows Jacob Finch Bonner, who was once a very promising writer, but whose career has now stalled. Jacob makes a living by teaching creative writing. One of his students has a brilliant idea for a novel plot. After the student suddenly dies, Jacob decides to steal the plot idea. The book he writes becomes a big success, but one day, he begins receiving anonymous messages from someone who claims to know about Jacob’s theft of the plot idea. The novel explores themes of morality, storytelling, desire, identity, and self-worth.
