The Passion of Dolssa Overview
Julie Berry's The Passion of Dolssa is the story of Friar Arnaut D'avinhonet who is gathering information about the inquisition of the 1600s. He questions the sentence carried out against Dolssa de Stigata, who claimed a personal relationship with Jesus. Those who believed Dolssa, which includes Botille Flasucra and her sisters, are sentenced to death as heretics. Dolssa dies in a pyre, but Botille and her sisters escape, at least for a time. The novel's main themes are Dolssa'a relationship with Jesus, the effects of the Inquisition, and the importance and limits of friendship.
