Everything you need to understand or teach The Morningside.
In Téa Obreht's novel The Morningside, 11-year-old Sil and her mother move in with Sil's aunt Ena at the Morningside apartment building in Island City. Sil is hopeful that joining her aunt here will resolve her and her mother's troubles. However, when the Morningside starts to feel as unpredictable as Sil's former life fleeing from home to home, Sil starts to rely upon magical thinking to escape. Set in a dystopian society and told from Sil's first person point of view, the novel explores themes including superstition, loneliness, and the past.
