The Lincoln Highway Overview
In the novel The Lincoln Highway by Amor Towles,18-year-old Emmett Watson is just out of a juvenile reform facility. His intentions are to take his younger brother, William “Billy” Watson, to another state and make a fresh start. Emmett is dismayed when troublemaker Daniel “Duchess” Hewett and mentally and emotionally unstable Wallace “Woolly” Wolcott Martin, also from the facility, sneak out with the intent of Emmett taking them on what they call a goodwill mission to the Adirondacks. Themes in the novel include fatal flaws, the importance of stories, and the righting of wrongs.
