The Light Between Oceans Overview
The Light Between Oceans is a historical novel by Australian author M. L. Stedman. The narrative follows protagonist Tom Sherbourne and his wife Isabel on the island of Janus Rock off the coast of Western Australia. Tom and Isabel, having recently suffered three miscarriages, discover a boat washed up on the island that contains a dead man and a baby girl. Tom and Isabel’s decision to keep the baby and not report the boat wreck leads to heartbreaking consequences. The Light Between Oceans explores themes of family, isolation, and guilt. It was adapted to film in 2016.
