In Louise Erdrich's novel The Last Report on the Miracles at Little No Horse, after Agnes DeWitt loses her lover, her prized piano, and her home, she leaves her old life and starts a new one. When she encounters the body of a dead priest on the roadside, she dons his robes his identity. Agnes thus becomes Father Damien Modeste, and journeys to the Little No Horse reservation to fulfill Damien's duties therein.
