The Impossible Fortress Overview
The Impossible Fortress is set in 1987 and follows teenager Billy Marvin. Billy is in the ninth grade and is very interested in computers, computer games, and programming. One day, he meets 14-year-old Mary Zelinsky, who shares his interests. Billy and Mary decide to collaborate on a video game to enter into a programming contest for teenagers, and they grow closer throughout the process. However, their friendship and nascent romantic feelings are threatened by various problems and mishaps involving their respective personal lives. The novel explores themes of friendship, romance, family, identity, and coming of age.
