The Hungry Tide is a contemporary environmental fiction novel set on the eastern coast of India. It follows the lives of three principal characters: Piya, a cetologist from the United States; Kanai, a translator and interpreter from New Delhi; and Fokir, a fisherman from Lusibari. The story is told in the third and the first person as these three very different characters come together in the Sundarbans. The novel explores environmental themes including man and nature, and humans and conservation.
