The House of Broken Angels Overview
The House of Broken Angels, by Luis Alberto Urrea, is a novel about two central events in the de la Cruz family: the funeral of Mamá América, and the final birthday party of Big Angel, the patriarch of the family dying of bone cancer. Throughout the course of the novel, the family is forced to reconcile with a number of family grudges, resentments and conflict. The novel covers themes such as immigration, death, family, and spirituality.
