The Heart Overview
Maylis de Kerangal's The Heart is a literary novel focused on the aftermath of a car accident in which a 19-year-old man named Simon Limbres lost his life. Simon's parents come to the difficult decision to allow Simon's organs to be donated, and as the plot unfolds, the narrator follows the medical staff involved in this process, and the woman with heart failure that is given a second chance at life as a result. The novel introduces themes related to death and memory, grief and loss, and time and synchronicity.
