The Girl With All the Gifts Overview
A highly infectious fungus has wreaked havoc on the human population turning most into flesh eating disease carriers in the novel “The Girl With All the Gifts” by M.R. Carey. With no cure or vaccine possible for the fungus, ten-year-old Melanie chooses to open a Pandora’s box, releasing the disease on the Earth. She has learned that in order for the population to be rebuilt those who don’t have the immunity she and other children like her do must be cleared out. Themes in the novel include the relationship between science and morality, the power of education, and the development of trust and respect.
