“The Gift Outright” is a 16-line poem in blank verse by American poet Robert Frost. Frost first read the poem in 1941 at the College of William and Mary, but recited it most famously 20 years later at the 1961 inauguration of John F. Kennedy. The poem depicts the first Americans making a "gift" of themselves to the American land in order to found the United States.
