The Fortress of Solitude Overview
The Fortress of Solitude is a semi-autobiographical historical novel by Jonathan Lethem in which best friends Dylan (a white kid) and Mingus (a black kid) grow up amidst the crime, racial tensions, and drug scene of the 1970s in Brooklyn. The Fortress of Solitude deals with important themes that include the differences among friends, the powerful hold of memories, racism, gentrification, and the different paths of individuals despite similar circumstances.
