The Floating World Overview
C. Morgan Babst’s novel The Floating World takes place in Katrina-era New Orleans and investigates issues of race, class, mental illness, and place of origin. The five members of the Boisdoré family take turns narrating, in third person limited, their experiences of the hurricane and its aftermath. The plot’s focus alternates between the mysterious death of a mentally ill black woman and the disintegration of the Boisdoré parents’ marriage.
