"The Edge" is a free verse poem by American poet, essayist, and professor Louise Glück. Originally published in her debut 1968 collection Firstborn, "The Edge" deals with the speaker's contemptuous submission to her husband. Their failed relationship degenerates into palpable tension as the speaker bears the burden of her marriage for the sake of her children.
