In the novella The Divorce by César Aira, the narrator, Kent, is on vacation in Buenos Aires when he witnesses the magical reunion between Enrique and Leticia, two friends who suffered a terrible experience together. Enrique has just been drenched with water, apparently from the awning of the street cafe where Kent and Leticia are eating, when Enrique recognizes Leticia. What follows is a mishmash of continued surprised meetings and odd stories about the people connected to Enrique. Themes in the novella include the malleability of time, discerning reality, and unholy priests.
