The Days of Afrekete Overview
In Asali Solomon's third person novel The Days of Afrekete, main character Liselle panics when she discovers that the FBI will soon indict her husband for corruption. Suddenly her illusion of stability crumbles. Unsure what to do, Liselle contacts her former college lover, Selena, in a fit of desperation. Over the course of the following hours, Selena attempts to balance her anxiety with her hope that Selena might resurface in her life and save her from her troubles. The novel explores themes including, love, longing, stability, and identity.
