China Miéville's novel, The City and The City tells the story of Inspector Tyador Borlú investigating the murder of a woman. In order to complete his investigation, Borlú must cross the line separating his city of Beszel to the much nicer city of Ul Qoma. The investigation uncovers many secrets between the two opposing cities. The main themes in this novel include secrecy, appearances versus reality, and being willing to see something differently than it's "always been."
