The Bricks That Built the Houses Overview
Kate Tempest’s The Bricks that Built the Houses contains the multiple perspectives of many characters, all of whom live in South London. The novel focuses primarily on Harry and Becky, a drug dealer and a dancer respectively, who have big dreams but exist performing daily drudgery to make ends meet. Their lives intersect with one another’s and with other characters who, alternately, help them to come closer to realizing their happier lives or aim to crush their dreams. The novel addresses ideas of hopelessness, sparked connection, and monotony in this quickly - and ever-changing city.
