Everything you need to understand or teach The Birdcatcher by Gayl Jones.
In Gayl Jones's novel The Birdcatcher, travel writer Amanda Wordlaw leaves her husband and child in the States to join her friends Catherine and Ernest Shuger in Ibiza, Spain. Fascinated by the couple's idiosyncratic relationship, Amanda relies upon their dynamic to feel better about her own fraught past. Throughout the novel, Amanda's unsettled interiority begets the novel's atypical structural and linguistic stylings. Written from both Amanda's and Catherine's first person points of view, the novel explores themes including entrapment and escape, art and artistry.
