Riad Sattouf’s graphic memoir, The Arab of the Future 2, is the sequel to his first graphic memoir—The Arab of the Future. This work depicts his life from ages six to seven. Continuing his career as a professor, Sattouf’s Syrian father keeps his family—his French wife and two sons—in Syria. Written from Sattouf’s perspective, the work comments upon identity, culture, politics, and family dynamics in Europe and the Middle East, as understood by a child.
