Tennis Shoe Adventure Series: Tennis Shoes Among the Nephites Overview
Heimendinger's novel, Tennis Shoes Among the Nephites, is the story of Jim Hawkins and Garth Plimpton, two 13-year-old boys growing up in a Mormon community of Wyoming. When Garth finds an ancient mural, Jim realizes that the key to that scene lies in an abandoned cave. The boys set out to explore the cave with Jim's younger sister, Jenny, tagging along. They accidentally find their way to an ancient land where they spend two months among the Nephites they have studied in religion classes. The novel's main themes are the role of religion, coming of age, and good versus evil.
