Swamplandia! Overview
A family unraveled when a wife and mother died of ovarian cancer in the novel “Swamplandia!” by Karen Russell. Even though the members of the family fought in their own ways to try to save their family’s alligator-themed amusement park, it was not until they came together and reached the conclusion they would have to leave their island and live on the mainland that they were able to begin to bind together as a family again. Themes in the novel include religion, ghosts and grief.
