In the novel Such a Fun Age by Kiley Reid, Emira Tucker, a young black adult, was struggling to decide what she wanted to do with her life when she was accosted in a traditionally white grocery store with the white child she was babysitting. Emira called the girl’s father, who diffused the situation. However, a video made of that incident sent Emira’s life on an unexpected tangent. Themes in the novel include coming of age, racism, and the danger of political correctness.
