Stamped: Racism, Antiracism, and You Overview
Jason Reynolds' Stamped: Racism, Antiracism, and You is a young adult remix of Ibram X. Kendi's Stamped from the Beginning: The Definitive History of Racist Ideas in America. Reynolds takes his reader on an anecdotal journey to the past, recounting the formation of racist ideas in American society beginning with slave labor in the colonies and ending with the Black Lives Matter movement of present day. By analyzing some of the most influential pieces of media such as literature and movies, legislation penned by giant historical figures such as Thomas Jefferson and W.E.B. Du Bois, and the effect such things had on the Black and White communities, Reynolds succinctly and powerfully summarizes how American social and political thought arrived where it is today. The book deals with themes of racial tolerance, storytelling, money over morality, the darker side of history, and more.
