Everything you need to understand or teach Something New Under the Sun by Alexandra Kleeman.
In Alexandra Kleeman's third person novel Something New Under the Sun, Patrick Hamlin is thrilled when he learns that Hollywood producers want to adapt his novel for the screen. He ventures off to California, leaving his wife and daughter behind, convinced that the movie will advance his career. Over the course of his time in California, however, Patrick finds himself increasingly disoriented and dislocated from reality. The wildfire stalking the Hollywood hills, the odd plastic culture of California, and the distance from his family exacerbates Patrick's emotional state. When he realizes that the producers may never finish the film at all, Patrick begins to suspect that something more nefarious is going on. With the help of the female lead, Cassidy Carter, Patrick starts playing the part of amateur detective. The novel explores themes including, fragility, change, and loneliness.
