Everything you need to understand or teach Somebody's Daughter by Ashley C. Ford.
Ashley Ford's Somebody's Daughter is the nonfiction account of her own life growing up in Fort Wayne, Missouri. In particular, Ford traces a path through her childhood and adolescence to the present-day, when she must grapple with the emergence of her father from prison after being absent for Ford's entire life. She looks back at how her relationship with her mother, siblings, grandmother, and classmates was impacted by her father's absence and reckons with several traumatic experiences which she survived by imagining her father's love. The book explores themes such as codependence in relationships, the effects of incarceration on a family, and motherhood as Ford journeys closer and closer to self-acceptance and inner peace after hardship.
