Skinship Overview

Yoon Choi's Skinship is a collection of eight short stories. Across the collection, Choi renders the immigrant experience with care, empathy, and marked bravery. Whether or not her characters have newly arrived in the States, or have lived there for decades, each of them must reconcile herself with who she is as a result of her family's sacrifices, struggles, and longings. The collection presents a network of distinct narrative voices, tracing the lives of mothers and daughters, fathers and sons, sisters and wives as they reencounter their pasts, contemplate the present, and hope for the future. The collection explores themes including, intimacy, family, and happiness.
