Everything you need to understand or teach Silver Nitrate by Silvia Moreno-Garcia.
Silvia Garcia-Moreno's Silver Nitrate tracks the perils faced by two members of the Mexican film industry, Montserrat and Tristán, as they attempt to defeat the malignant spirit of a Nazi occultist named Ewers who worked in film during the 1950s. Set in Mexico City in the 1990s, the novel offers both veneration and critique of the art of film while exploring the implications of race and gender on the lives of the individuals who live there, as well as the ways in which the individual experiences of Montserrat and Tristán come to bear on their friendship. A love letter to the thriller genre, Silver Nitrate explores themes of sexism, racism, social mobility, love, and creativity.
