Shelter: A Novel Overview
In Jung Yun’s contemporary novel Shelter, Kyung Cho is a husband, father, and son, trying to balance his own desires with the needs of his family, especially those of his traditional Korean parents. When tragedy strikes, Kyung has to step in to be more involved with his parents than he ever has as an adult. There comes a point when he can no longer fight the desire to tell everyone how he feels, but there are tragic consequences that force him to come to terms with many aspects of his own life and his relationships with others. The main themes explored in Shelter include the effects of domestic violence, cultural differences, and finances.
