Seveneves Overview
Neal Stephenson's epic science-fiction novel, Seveneves, chronicles humankind's struggle to survive after a mysterious astronomical event fragmentizes the Moon. With only two years until pummeling debris will destroy Earth's atmosphere, landmass and oceans, the Cloud Ark project is created to save civilization from extinction and to assuage despair among the planet's doomed inhabitants. A global collaborative launches 1,500 people and the Human Genetic Archive to the radically expanded International Space Station, which must become self-sustaining for 5,000 years until Earth might be terraformed to again support life. Seveneves explores themes of survival, exploration, apocalypse, and collectivism.
