Thirteen-year-old Capricorn Anderson lives in seclusion on an old hippie commune with his grandmother, until she breaks a hip. Cap is sent to middle school and immersed in a world he knows nothing about. In spite of Cap’s unusual upbringing, behavior, and manner of dressing, Cap becomes popular in the highly competitive world of middle school. After Cap’s grandmother recovers, he vacillates between love for home and a desire to return to the outside world. Cap’s grandmother finds a solution that lets Cap return to middle school and learn more about how to survive in the outside world.
