Saboteur is a short story by Ha Jin. It was originally published in the Antioch Review in 1996. The story is set in totalitarian China after the Cultural Revolution. The protagonist is a 34-year-old university professor named Chiu Maguang, who is arrested by the police one day for no legitimate reason. While in custody, Chiu is devastated to find that all of his attempts to have justice are thwarted. The story explores themes of injustice, totalitarianism, and corruption.
