Romantic Comedy is a contemporary novel about romance and self-growth. It is written both from the first person perspective of the protagonist, Sally, as well as through emails between Sally and her love interest, Noah. The novel is set in New York City and Kansas City, Missouri both before and during the Covid-10 pandemic. The novel follows the growth of Sally as she learns to release some of her insecurities and to question some of the stereotypes she holds about people. Key themes include the superiority of progressive ideology, the difficulties of different means of communication, the tendency people have to allow physical characteristics to define themselves and others, the importance of insight in combatting stereotypes, and people’s need for other people.
