River Sing Me Home Overview

In Eleanor Shearer's novel River Sing Me Home, the protagonist Rachel flees bondage at Providence plantation, determined to find her five missing children. Although she has liberated herself from slavery, Rachel meets innumerable challenges throughout her journey. As she travels from Barbados to British Guiana to Trinidad, Rachel realizes that she must redefine her sense of freedom and her relationship with the past. Written from the third person limited point of view, the novel explores themes including grief, hope, and survival.
