Red Sparrow is a spy novel by former CIA operative Jason Matthews. The narrative follows the character of Dominika Egorova, a Russian ballerina who becomes a spy for the Russian intelligence agency. She comes to view the Russians as cruel so she joins forces with the CIA as a double agent. However, she soon learns that the Americans are capable of betraying her trust as well. Themes in the novel include political influences and pressures, treatment of women, and conflicting goals and motivations.
