S.A. Cosby’s Razorblade Tears is a noir thriller that follows the journey of two fathers, Ike Randolph and Buddy Lee Jenkins, as they hunt their sons’ murderer. Both men are ex-convicts and reflect upon their past behavior as their search progresses and draws them back into old habits. The novel is set in Virginia and depicts the racial dynamics between the fathers and accessory characters, and also depicts various characters’ attitudes towards homosexuality, in the context of the two sons’ interracial marriage. Cosby blends archetypal elements of the detective genre with contemporary challenges to race and sexuality.
