Queen of Katwe Overview
Queen of Katwe by Tim Crothers tells the story of Phiona Mutesi, a child from the slums of Katwe in Uganda, who becomes a teenage chess champion. Queen of Katwe explores the challenges facing slum children in Uganda and demonstrates how the American organization Sports Outreach has helped these children overcome their circumstances through the combination of sport and religion. Queen of Katwe addresses themes of personal strength, faith, perseverance, poverty, and athletics.
