Queen Sugar Overview
Natalie Baszile's Queen Sugar follows Charley as she tries to save 800 acres of sugarcane bequeathed to her by her father with strict conditions. After overcoming the shock that he sold all his rental property and owned nothing but this sugarcane acreage, Charley and her daughter Micah pack up and leave Los Angeles to move to St. Josephine Parrish, a culture shock because of its segregated neighborhoods, blatant racism, and sexism. Further complicating matters, Charley’s reckless, long, lost half-brother arrives to claim his portion of the inheritance.
