Point Omega Overview
Don DeLillo's novel Point Omega, set mostly in the desert of contemporary America, combines political and environmental concerns (such as the Iraq War) with meditations on mortality and the impact of a decaying world on the individual psyche. The result is a cold, unflinching portrayal of America in its gradual decline and its citizens in a perpetual state of existential drifting - quietly, passively, hopelessly seeking transcendence. The novel offers no closure, emotional or philosophical, and deals with themes of time, death, spiritual retreat, and the apocalypse.
