In Roland Smith's novel Peak, 14-year-old Peak Marcello travels overseas with his estranged biological father Joshua Wood. Shortly thereafter, he discovers that his dad wants him to climb Mount Everest in order to win media attention and save his climbing business. Peak feels confused by this setup, but has always wanted to be close to Josh. He tries his best to please his father and achieve his goal, but encounters numerous unpredictable challenges along his climb to the mountaintop.
