Parachute Kids, written by Betty C. Tang, is a graphic novel aimed at young readers. Feng-Li arrives in California from Taiwan with her parents and her two older siblings, a brother named Ke-Gang and a sister named Jia-Xi. After they visit the local tourist destinations, Feng-Li's parents announce that they will be returning to Taiwan when their visas are up, but the three children will remain in America to take advantage of the opportunities for a better life. Their parents return to Taiwan, leaving the three children to make lives for themselves without any direct adult supervision. The graphic novel's main themes are hope, fulfilling one's roles in family and society, and the need to belong.
