Outlawed Overview
Exploring themes such as faith, racism, and gender, Anna North presents the first-person narrative of a 17-year-old small-town girl in the 1890s. Unable to conceive a child after marriage, Ada is suspected of witchcraft and exiled to a convent. Determined to understand barrenness, she leaves the convent to join a gang of outlaws, hoping one day to reach a surgery practice where barrenness is treated. Through her lessons and ordeals with the Hole in the Wall gang, Ada conquers self-doubt, grows into a worthy adult, and affirms her life's mission: to help other women overcome major ailments through medicine.
