Out in the Open Overview
Jesús Carrasco’s Out in the Open follows the arduous journey of a young run-away boy. Desperate to escape a life of abuse, he flees his village for the wild plain of his unnamed drought-stricken country. With the help of a kind old goatherd, the boy must learn to survive under harsh environmental conditions and overcome his past trauma, all while avoiding capture by the village’s cruel bailiff. Out in the Open is a dystopic bildungsroman tale that tackles difficult themes of survival, mentorship, trauma, betrayal, and morality.
